On sending invitations to other social networks 2008/04/24 15:44 Karma: 1
How do you guys feel about being invited to other social networks? Do you get annoyed or flattered? How can I tell whether or not to send you an invite to one of the other social networks that I belong to?

DeAnna,

I don't mind getting invited but I rarely accept. Doing LinkedIn right takes up enough time.

Hello

With a large network on LI of 9,3M+ I do get a lot of invitations. Being a LION I accept all LI invitation after a brief view on the profile.

I have decided to limit my presence to a certain number of networks and if I get one invite to join another network then here is my standard reply:

My main platform is really LinkedIn. You’ll find my profile at http://www.linkedin.com/in/frankmandix (just click “Add Frank to your network”) or use this link: http://tinyurl.com/2ajavb. My e-mail is frankmandix@gmail.com. I would be happy if you also would invite to your network on LinkedIn; provided we are not connected already.

I am an Open Networker and will accept your invitation. You can also find me on other platforms, should you want to boost your network there (my e-mail here is frankmandix@gmail.com):

Plaxo Pulse – www.plaxo.com
Marzar - www.marzar.com/
Xing - www.xing.com, Invitation: http://www.xing.com/go/invite/8052335.2be5c8
Ecademy - www.ecademy.com/
Facebook – www.facebook.com Profile: http://profile.to/frankmandix/
LinkedIn - http://tinyurl.com/2ajavb

If I can help you further please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,

Frank Mandix

This way I am (hopefully) not considered discourteous but convey where I want a presence.
LI is really my primary network but Marzar and Ecademy both offers better interactions with menbers and have forums.

Plaxo is also OK but I on XING because of my inability to say "No". Facebook is on the list as many of my private friends use it.

We all need to set a limit and being on networks takes up a lot of time if you want to be active, which is why LI is the main network and Ecademy/marzar number two(s).

Kind Regards

Frank Mandix

Thanks for your answers. I just noticed that some of the other networks allow for more personal interaction than linkedin. Personally I am using linkedin, myspace, facebook, and yuwie the most.

I used to get annoyed, but now I just have my SPAM filters remove all such invites before I see them. Linkedin is all I need and more than I have time for.

BTW I accept all invites...

Here's a link that makes it incredibly easy to send me one:

I joined LI 5 years ago... The fun then was to be on all the networks. With numbers, I then decided to actively manage two (LI and Xing) and just have a static introduction on others telling visitors to join me on LI or Xing. Now I don't accept any new network as the number is overwhelming...

Do I feel annoyed to receive invitations? Not really. I do understand people eager to build their own network on their platform(s) of choice. But I will only accept them on LI (6360 1st degree connections) and on Xing (http://www.xing.com/go/invita/369754 to join me there).

This is my business networking strategy. For private networking, it is somewhat different. I am on Facebook and Asmallworld but do only accept friends I personally know there..
