Lion directories 2008/06/29 17:24 Karma: 0
As I'm closing in on a 10m total network on LinkedIn, I decided to hurry things along. So I went to the membership lists that are on this site to find which of the higher-placed Lions I do not yet have in my inner circle.

I've looked through the entire list of the 15k+ connections, and was surprised to find some people on that list who haven't even reached 500 yet. I thought someone might want to check these:

Kendra Ramirez (475)
Denise Gabbard (255)
Gene R Setterstrom (232)
Francis Lim (227)
Morgan Drew (85)
Tom Rollert (42)
Karen Lynn Scellini (7)

Yes, this last one only has 7 connections listed! Not sure how she got on the 15k+ list.

I invited many of the others on the list to connect with me. Since I was really wanting to save my invitations for the higher-placed people, it makes me wonder how many of those others were miscategorized also. I hope I didn't use up too many invitations on those who were just barely over 500 (since, of course, LinkedIn won't tell me that!).

Hmm, I can easily imagine someone's network now being larger than when they first registered as a Lion, but how would it get smaller?

Perhaps one of the powers-that-be here on this site might want to take a peek at the directories and touch them up a bit....

Thanks!

Hi Jan,

you have made some interesting observations that are hard to explain.

Hello there

If you want to be part of my large network (11M+) then send my an invitation.
You’ll find my profile at http://www.linkedin.com/in/frankmandix (just click “Add Frank to your network”) or use this link. My e-mail is frankmandix@gmail.com.

I would be happy if you would invite to your network on LinkedIn.

Kind Regards,

Frank, thank you for the very kind message. I would love to connect with you, of course. But.....

We're already connected! Yes, we're already first-degree contacts. <wink>

I'm just a little concerned about the invitations that I quickly sent out to those people on the 15k+ list without noticing that they were misplaced....

Thanks for writing!
Jan

Jan,

I also thought the LION group was for 500+ folks. I waited a year or two after joining LinkedIn before trying to join the LIONs.

Lately I've noticed that we seem to have been infiltrated by those that seem like there interest is primarily "borderline" spam. I've gotten some git rich quick plugs and others that seem rather nefairious. Perhaps we should tighten up a tad when it comes to membership. Of course that may mean that the leader would have to come out of hiding.

Regards,

I see. So has Chris been in hiding for a while? That would explain why he himself hasn't answered my post yet. I was curious about that.

(His email is in his LinkedIn headline in case you want to write to him: cmayaud@theverticomgroup.com.)

At first I thought the same as you, Dan, and was excited when I "earned" my way into this group. But when you consider the name -- "LinkedIn Open Networkers" -- I guess you can say that it's for anyone who agrees to accept all invitations. And that could be someone with a single connnection.

My original post was referring to the directories that Chris makes available to us. Click on "LION membership lists" along the left, go to the drop-down at the upper right, and you'll see "Lions with 15k+ Connections." That is the list I was talking about in my first post, that includes varying degrees of members, one with as few as 7 connections!!

I sent invitations to many on that list, possibly using up invitations to people who had under 1+ connections. The list should definitely be corrected.

Hello,
In some of the other posts on this site there are many people that are concerned with the, "Fake Lions", that are everywhere in Linked In. Many do not even put their email address in their profiles. It took a couple of weeks for me to get accepted to this group I have some LION pride issues with these fakes. I think that there are many people out there that do not understand the meaning of Open Networker. I hope that someday they can get educated by Linked In themselves.

My original post was not necessarily in regards to what you call "fake Lions." I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to spot one. In my opinion, being a member of this group simply means that you're an open networker, and willing to accept most all invitations.

My posting was in regards to the "LION Membership Lists" found in the menu along the left of this site. People in those lists are grossly miscategorized. It would be nice if the lists were updated so we could rely upon them.

I encountered a few people on the list that had the invitation bounced. Pretty sure if I am right that means that the email address is no longer valid because the invitations were not deliverable. So some updating could be made to the lists.
