I had an idea I wanted some feedback on...

If I include LION's as a previous employer on my profile, couldn't
anyone (from the group)just list me as a colleague at "LION's" and
easily connect?

I am thinking that that would eliminate any concerns over getting an
IDK, and make it clear to me that the person inviting me is also a LION.

I am sure there is some flaw to this, but I am too lazy to figure it
out for myself...

As a new member, I believe the idea is sound. By adding the company, you are able to find others currently at the company as well. Also, if at anytime you no longer want to be associated with the LIONs, you can remove the position.

There are a few pieces of information which would have to be standardized to connect this way.

1) The name of the company. You suggested LinkedIn LION. I would avoid using LinkedIn, due to stepping too close to their protected name. Though, the name Metanetwork might work, since http://www.themetanetwork.com is the new LION website.

2) A title at the company. A position title is required, but it accepts anything. I would put LION here.

3) The industry. This has to be the same. LinkedIn is smart enough to differentiate the same company name from other companies, but in different industries.

I had member as my position and Think Tank as the industry. I agree with all the sugesstions, perhaps we could get a few people to try it and see how it works.

Louis, are you suggesting leaving LION out completely or do you mean Metanetwork LION's? Why not just make it simple and use LIONS Network?

I am changing mine to say:

Company: Metanetwork LIONS
Position: Member
Industry:internet

I would be interested in what the moderators think about this and if there is a concensus on the best way to do this, or if we should even do it...?

I like that it will notify me when new people from my "company" join and allow me to connect a little more easily.

What I have commented on is one method of working on an easy way to connect.

In principle I have never followed a path of confrontation, life is too short for that. While to some it may be a matter of principle or a matter of pride to use the word LION in that manner, I for one would not advocate it. It does not make me any less of a LION.

The end result one wants to achieve is for all true LIONs to be able to connect easily on LinkedIn, without the hassle that one has to go through today. Most of it is caused due to the fact that LinkedIn have what the LIONs see as a restrictive policy in place. As an aside may I add that it should only be used by LIONs who have no hangups about being very selective with the types of invitations they accept, which I accept will not be easy to control.

The confrontation I was referring to was with LinkedIn admin.

Misunderstandings do happen, they can be cleared by communicating as we are doing right now.

I have added this to my profile, listing as a member with Metanetwork.
I have added the industry as Internet.

A search for the company lists your profile indicating that the LIONS is not necessary to see you.
Based on this I think we could use a system where your level of acceptance is indicated directly on your profile, say "Metanetwork Open" if you are willing to accept any invitations, or "Metanetwork Personalised" if you do not accept boilerplate invites.

As Louis points out we may run into problems with the admins, but as a theory it's brilliant.

I think it's a great idea. Whether we call it LIONS metanetwork or just metanetwork isn't as important to me so long as everyone uses the same naming convention.
