Marked "I Don't Know" by a fellow LION on the current invite... 2007/07/09 08:20 Karma: 1
I apologize for those of you who got an invitation from me that forced you to mark me "I don't know" however, I have only been using the new "opt-in" mailing list provided on this site. I am still amazed that I got several replies as "I do not know this person" and think that it is rather ironic that someone mark themselves as Open to Networking and Okay to mass mail invites then only to reject people.

Whats the deal? How can I invite without imposing or offending? I want to be a contributor to both this group as well as my network.

-Sincerely

Beaten and Abused.

Hi Michael,

I don't know. I see no reason not to connect with others because I don't know them .. yet. Connecting is a - great - first step in getting to know others... Keep up the good spirit!

Kind regards,

Karel Frielink

we only generated our first double optin Invite list yesterday ... The YahooGroup Subscriber list has always been our default Invite List but alot of new members didn't understand that so starting August 1 we will retire the use of the YahooGroup Subscriber List as the default Invite List and only use the double opt-in list ... that should solve this problem ...

anyone answering I don't know to an invite from a Fellow Lion who clearly identifies themselves as a Lion should probably be banned at than point ...

Thanks,

Your effort to build this community is so greatly appreciated. It is so vital to the success of a recruiter to have a large network of contacts. Your LION's network really has helped me grow my network. If at anytime I can help you in any way, please don't hesitate to ask. I would love the opportunity to pay it forward.

Michael

Dear michael,

Apparently, some people missed the whole point of this community. Maybe they forgot why they became members, or even that they are members.

I send you my warmest sympathy.

Hello Michael,

That seems absurd that they would be an open networker and still flag you as "don't know". I too have been bitten by that bug.

For what it's worth, I would be honored to link with you.

Best Regards,

Eric

I just got hit with 3 of those from the following members. I also heard that you can be blacklisted at LinkedIn if you get more than 5 of these "Don't Know" responses. Here are the ones that responded don't know. Not sure what we can do about this, they certainly don't belong on the download list.

FYI:
Yesterday (July 11, 2007) was my first day as a LION member. I downloaded the "Double Optin Invite List" file and sent invitations accordingly with the following message...

I am sending this invitation to you, my fellow LION member, who's profile shows that you are open to expanding your network through invitations of this nature.

Please accept this invite to join my professional network.

Thank you,

In the past 24 hours, about 200 have accepted. HOWEVER, when I noticed a former work associate and tried to send an invitation to him, I got the following at the top of my screen...

"The action is not allowed because your account is restricted. Please contact Customer Service at customer_service@linkedin.com."

I sent an email to them and am waiting on a response. I will try to keep you posted when/if I get a response.

...don't know for sure that there is a connection yet but I am guessing, YES...

E.J.

Yes, The cause is that you now have more than 5 "I do not know this person" 's in your sent invitation list. This is is uncorrectable by anyone other than Linkedin. You have violated their new restrictive policy on invitations. And some of your fellow LIONs members have chosen not to connect with you.

The list you have is not the double opt in as you and I both thought it was, but rather the old list. The New list is suppose to be out August 1st.

I ran into this problem myself. The only restriction I have now is that I can't invite colleagues through their special colleague interface. If you get Linkedin to fix your account, please let me know what you did to correct it. If anyone knows more restrictions that are imposed if you have more than 5 "I do not know this person." in your list, please post them.

Thanks,

-

I might also point out that I have over 20 "I do not know this person" in my list from that invite list, but I am still able to function with almost everything in linkedin.
