Newbies - Mass "invite me please" 2007/10/03 14:23

Hi, I think we should try and address an issue from the last weeks. There are many new members to this forum and others that instead of inviting, send a mail asking to invite them. What do you think about it? Is it just me or it is annoying as hell? How can power networkers with limited resources (time & invitations) handle this flood of letters? How we can create a list of best practices and guide lines that are mandatory to read before you can download the csv file? Really looking forward to your comments and views, Idan. P.S. I have no problem with getting invitations from anyone who means serious business / professional networking...

Well said Idan
I'm finding them really annoying. Either do the work yourself and send me an invitation or leave me alone.
But I have to allow for newbie mistakes.
A terms and conditions tickbox before downloading may be an idea?

I am also getting these and find most of the time I am all ready connected so they are not even taking the time to send to potential connections only they are just spamming everyone.

Newer LIONs should also know that many of us don't have any invitations remaining. In my case, I've tried to answer some of these invitation emails and let the sender know that I'd invite them if I could...but like Idan said, time is limited. I like the idea of a 'how-to' or best practices guideline to accompany the download of our list. Michelle

Michelle
Excellent idea!
I've noticed a curious phenomenon. Some people seem to be offended if they receive a duplicate request, or a request from the DL list. What is the issue here? My keyboard has a little key labeled "Delete" that easily handles such matters. I certainly do not have an emotional response to a duplicate request. In fact, I think, how nice to know I have not been overlooked!

Ok, I am a newbie and I read this post after I downloaded a list and Mass-emailed a I'd like to connect invitation.
What is the best practice for this so I know for the future?

I receive between 150 and 200 non-spam emails per day. I'm not offended by duplicates, I just think it's unprofessional. If the sender uses the "Upload you contacts" page in LinkedIn it will automatically remove dupes.

Hi Paul, Thanks for the welcome. As a matter of fact that's exactly how I sent the invites! I guess it was beginners luck!

Paul, I cannot imagine anyone not using the 7/21 list, and uploading the CSV file to Linkedin. I hope each LION will do this with the current list. I noticed a few bounced emails, but the list seems clean. I also note that some fellow LIONs do not check their emails on a regular basis. I hope this means they are so busy making money, that email takes a back seat.
On the topic of professionalism, what are the group's opinions about the use of the various free email accounts versus email to your domain? I cringe when I see "business" email from someone at aol, hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc. I counsel my students to be extremely careful with these things, particularly when they are hunting for a job. I've seen things like hotbikerchick@hotmail.com as the contact information on a resume. While that may be descriptive in some circles, I don't see it as appropriate in business. The same for Mybiz@aol.com, Mybiz@yahoo.com, etc. Registering a domain and setting up email accounts is so simple and inexpensive, I'm inclined to view not doing so as a lack of professionalism.
Comments?
