I know there are threads discussing LIONS who don't want to connect, but I wanted to discuss this specific issue, since it just happened to me yesterday.
************* I downloaded the "DoubleOptin"UploadableInviteList07162007.csv file and sent invitations to the 200 or so LIONs with whom I was not already connected. Unfortunately, I had 3 people reply with "Do Not Know". This, of course, confused me. The name of the download file alone implies that I would received "Accepted" from everyone on it. However, after looking up the people who said DNK, I saw that their settings were "No" to invites, and "Yes" to DO NOT MASS email.
My point: If you change your mind about your email settings AFTER you've already opt'd in, you are obligated to do one of the following:
1) Accept the connection -- you can always disconnect later if you're afraid another LOIN is going to harm you, your credibility or your pursuit of happiness.
2) Have the courtesy to reply directly to the person so that the invitation may be withdrawn. Many LIONs have few invites left (a whole different topic!) and do not need DNKs on their record when they ask LinkedIn for more.
Am I way off base on this??

Perfect! You are right, there are so many sub-issues here! But if you are on the list to accept, you should by all rights follow thru!
To be fair though, I think some newbies (like myself) are confused initially. It is less confusing to change your settings now, then it is to set it right at the beginning. I would urge all newbies to have a look at your profile and make sure everything is the way you want it. To me the whole idea of being a LION is to connect!
I look forward to connecting with you!

many of these issues should be resolved by August 1 EXCEPT THIS ONE Mike brings up an excellent point of proper Lion netiquette ... If you change your mind and update your opt-in -- you are not INSTANTLY removed from the previous lists -- and even if you were, what about LIONS who download the list where you HAD opted in ... Obviously, your wishes would be carried out with THE NEXT RELEASE of the Optin Lists We are moving towards 2 lists -- 1) Lions who ACCEPT ALL Invites
2) Lions who WELCOME ALL Invites Same Rules apply: If you change your mind, you just have to wait until the next release

Great idea Christian! This really should fix the issue.
I've already updated my profile.
Thanks!

I downloaded the list yesterday and this morning I have over 200 LIONS who have connected with me which is great. However I have also seen that 3 people have put a DNK on file. I find this bad form especially as I put in the e-mail that if people didn't want to connect with me then would they please send me an e-mail and I would withdraw the request.
I think there should be a way to name and shame these people and if they do it to more than 5 individuals then they should be banned from the Lions group in the same way we have our accounts restricted by linkedin if we get 5 DNK's to our name.
Thoughts?

Hi Mike- I would agree. I just sent an invite out like you just yesterday and nearly doubled my LinkedIn connections in 24 hrs! Fortunately not 1 person so far has declined my invitation. Don't opt in if you're not going to be an open networker!
