We have all ran across the profiles on Linkedin that have LION in the name field little to nothing in the body of the profile or in this case a (open networker LION) in the profile but no where to be found on yahoo groups or The Lion's Lair. Do a search on LION you will see what I mean. I wonder how many phony profiles are out there and how are they being used to access Linkedin user’s profiles I also believe they cause a misrepresentation to the Linkedin user community of the true LION’s I would be interested to see what the rest of you think.

I wonder if some of them are genuine mistakes? When I subscribed to LI's OpenlinkNetwork I thought that was what was meant by LION and so stuck LION after my name. Then I realised my mistake, removed the LION but, applied to join the lair and only when accepted reinstated the LION.

I guess the only thing to do regarding the people themselves is to send a pile of InMails to them to advise them of their mistake. It may be worth putting a notice up here to say that such people exist and to approach them with caution, possibly checking their membership here or on google-groups first.

Kinda defeats the whole point though.

I've been searching for LIONs on linkedin and inviting them. I've invited hundreds and only had one IDK. The guy had "Linkedin Open Networker" in his profile, with (LION) up there too. Brian Potter of Raytheon. Marked me IDK. He had his email address up there too, sent him an email, asking him what's up with that, and we'll see what he says. He has only 20 connections, that might be a clue.

I got IDK'ed by the same Brian Potter I wounder if there is a way to report him to Linkedin.

All these terms and groups and protocol has thrown me a curve ball...

LION stands for LinkedIn Open Networker. Placing this abbreviation anywhere in your LI profile indicates that you are an open networker, too. As an ON you should be prepared to invitations and contact requests from other LIONs. If you prefer privacy instead, I suggest not using our abbreviation in your profile.
