Hullo Group,
I'm a freelance book designer and laout artist. I've been at this about 15 years, and I think I'm finally coming into my own. Although, when I was a kid, I thought I'd publish a whole slew of Great Amerian Novels--hell, I wrote two bad, unpublishable one by the time I was about 20--I had no idea I'd have some 55 or so books in print by this point, and not a one of 'em that I wrote.
I've worked on general trade, children's storybooks, and highly technical books loaded with math and equations. I'm equally adept at handling straight text, tabular material, and books that are heavy with full-color photos. To this point, I've worked primarily for smaller publishers, though I've also worked on a number of books published by McGraw-Hill and Prentice hall--both times, however, through book packagers. I now want to take the leap to freelancing for the big outfits, in no particular order: Random House, Rowman & Littlefield, Harcourt, Elsevier, and like that.
Toward that end, I finally have a website up (http://www.tianodesign.com), complete with work samples. Attached to this site is a blog (http://www.tianodesign.com/blog), where I discuss the business of freelancing, and my take on book design and typesetting. But I'm looking for the magic bullet, or at least introductions to people who have some say over contracting freelance book designers at publishing houses.
I am attaching my resume for your viewing pleasure.
I hope to put in as much as I take out, but for starters I'm asking: Will anyone here assist me?
Thank you.
Steve Tiano
